Kolapore has received about 4 cm of snow this afternoon and evening, and it is snowing lightly at 10 PM.  This will help to freshen the trails. I posted last night at 10:30 that there had been 6 cm of new snow - we didn't get any more overnight, although it is snowing at the moment.  There should be enough new snow to make many trails skiable.  Kolapore Trail Guide

I headed out at 1:10 PM on the Country Forest trail, having not skied it this year.  I would say that the March 6 comments made by someone else are pretty accurate.  The tracks were frozen.  As I have a 3-pin binding I found at times the extra width of the binding would create friction in the track when on the flat or going uphill.  My no wax skis did not provide much grip in the track but did work outside of the track.  The snow outside the track was not hard enough to fully support my weight.  Most of the time I stayed in the track. When going downhill, I found it difficult to slow down because the snow was too dense for a good snowplow.  I did try the intermediate section towards the west end of the Country Forest trail between markers 62 and 63.  I skied off the trail to get a more gradual descent and that worked.

The snow coverage was excellent.  

It was a beautiful blue sky day and nice to be out.

I headed out about 1 PM to see what conditions were like, hoping that the warming would have softened the track.  It has a bit, but not enough to make skiing either safe or enjoyable.  It may be better later this afternoon (Monday).  Given the predicted cold temperatures for the next few days, Kolapore skiing is likely to continue to be unsatisfactory until we get new snow.  This is the time of year when it can be wise to pay for the grooming at Scenic Caves or Highlands Nordic.  Kolapore Trail Guide 

With the warm temperatures and sun yesterday, and the cooler temperatures overnight, the trail surface became an icy crust.  Kolapore has received about 2 cm of new snow, which will improve conditions somewhat.  Given the expected temperatures today we will likely have spring skiing conditions much of the day.  The cooler temperatures expected overnight will refreeze the trails, and the trails are likely to be icy on Monday.  Kolapore Trail Guide  

Overnight Kolapore received about 12 cm of moist snow.  If you are the first one on a trail, it will be relatively heavy trail breaking.  Be sure to prep your skis because it could be "clumpy" conditions. The County Forest parking lot is well plowed.  Kolapore Trail Guide

The temperature highs the past two days were close to freezing, and there was some sun.  As a result, the trails are firm and fast, although based on a short ski on Friday morning they don't seem to be icy in the bush.  Be prudent in your choice of trails to ski.  If you are planning to ski on Saturday, you should be strategic.  It is unlikely that the Kolapore parking lot will be plowed before the afternoon.  The County Forest parking lot will likely be plowed in the morning.  I will do an update early Saturday.   Kolapore Trail Guide

Overnight Kolapore received several cm of new snow.  It is very difficult to tell how much, because the strong winds moved it around.  I would guess that we received no more than 5 cm.  The good news is that there didn't seem to be any freezing rain or freezing drizzle.  The County Forest parking lot is well plowed. Kolapore has received a few cm of snow over the past 24 hours.  This should help to freshen the trails.  I think conditions should be quite good today, although I'm still planning to wear rocks skis.  I know from skiing on Thursday that there are rocks that aren't snow covered.  Based on conditions yesterday, both the Kolapore and County Forest parking lots should be in good condition.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Thursday afternoon Kolapore had some light freezing drizzle.  Overnight we had a cm or two of powder snow.  I think the skiing will be OK - the freezing drizzle coating was quite thin.  Kolapore Trail Guide
