The fourth of the Kolapore 50th Anniversary Heritage Hikes - the Super Blue Moon Hike – will be a nighttime hike on Wednesday, August 30.
This will be the second full moon in August, known as a Blue Moon.
And it is a Super Moon too! It is near its perigee, the point on its elliptical orbit when it is closest to Earth. It will be about 14% bigger and 30% brighter, than when it is at its apogee.
Moonrise is at 8:17 pm at 108 degrees.
This will be a dry weather event. If it rains, we will postpone until the next Blue Moon on August 24, 2024.
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Metcalfe Rock Parking lot 415477 10th Line Town of the Blue Mountains. Car pool if you can, as the parking lot has limited space.
Walking distance: 2 kilometers to the bonfire location on the top of Red Death.
Bring:
- Your favourite sky gazing beverage
- A snack to pass around the bonfire and share with your fellow hikers
- Headlamp
- A blanket or folding chair to sit on
You will be asked to sign a waiver at the parking lot when we meet.
The Heritage Hiking Series is free to all participants. Donations - either cash in the donation box at the Grey Road 2 parking lot or e-transfer to info@kolaporetrails.org - are welcome.
