Snow keeps coming. Blessings upon those of you who were out today breaking trail. Most main trails are skied in. It's going to be cold but excellent skiing this weekend (although because of the cold snow there won't be much glide). Time to use up some of that green and polar wax that has been in your kit for decades. Cover up. Vaseline on exposed skin. Extra supplies in case you are out longer than expected. Do not let yourself overheat! If you get warm take off layers. Sweat is not your friend. Have fun!

12++ cm of new snow in the past 24 hours. The County Forest parking lot was plowed, and the main Kolapore parking lot should be in good shape.  When I skied this (Thursday) afternoon most trails on the east side of the Kolapore trail system had been at least lightly skied in.  The Kolapore snow gauge is up to 60 cm, which is the highest it has been at any point this winter.  Skiing should be great in the coming days if you are prepared for serious cold temperatures.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Overnight Kolapore received about 12 cm of snow.  The County Forest parking lot is well plowed, and based on recent experience the main Kolapore parking lot is probably plowed.  Be prepared to break trail - a solo skier was headed into the County Forest at 10 AM, but we will need more use to set decent tracks.  If you are prepared for cold weather, there should be some great skiing over the next week or longer.  Kolapore Trail Guide

I did the County Forest - Kingsway - Jackrabbit - John's Portage this morning, and conditions were excellent.  Yesterday I skied Southern Crossing and the southern portion of Quiet Pastures, and in the areas west of the 10th Line there were quite a few wet spots.  I expect the cold spell that is predicted will fix that (on those trails and Trail to the Summit) over the next few days.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received about 5 cm of new snow over the last 24 hours.  Skiing at the south end was great yesterday.  There are still a few wet spots, and my good skis told me when I was skiing outside of the County Forest that I should still have been using rock skis.  Both parking lots should be very usable.  Get out and enjoy.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Over the past 24 hours Kolapore has received about 15 cm of new snow.  This is on top of an icy crust.  I skied in the County Forest this afternoon, and conditions were good.  You do need to look out for the occasional wet spot resulting from the recent thaw.  At mid-afternoon not all the County Forest had been skied in, and no one had skied north or west from the County Forest.  Skiing should be good on Friday, but be prepared to break trail.  Kolapore Trail Guide

This morning I skied the perimeter of County Forest and did the section of Southern Crossing west to the 10th Line.  The skiing was pleasant, although there are places where rocks are showing through.  I would stay away from our serious hills, because there is only a modest amount of new snow on top of crust.  Based on several wet areas that have reappeared, I would strongly recommend against skiing on any of our wetter trails ("Winter Use Only" trails).  I cleared the fallen tree just south of intersection 8, and did pickup through all of County Forest.   There are likely to be a number of trees down on other trails, given the recent strong winds.  Please help with the pickup.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Just completed the County Forest loop from the South parking lot. The snow was fantastic! A few wet spots - easy to avoid - and a tree down between 8 & 7, very close to 8. Other than that, lots of snow, good glide and full on Winter Wonderland in the pines. Enjoy!!

As I post at 9 AM, Kolapore has received about 3 cm of new snow overnight.  This is on top of an icy crust.  We need more snow to provide enjoyable and safe skiing.  Think snow!  Kolapore Trail Guide

I did a short ski in the County Forest mid-day today, and conditions were better than I expected.  There wasn't much frozen crust, and the bit of new snow provided a decent surface.  Given the weather forecast, snow conditions are likely to change substantially (deteriorate) over the next few days.  I'm waiting until some new snow arrives.  If you looked at my previous post, I'm happy to report that two chainsaw crews were out on Monday, and removed the fallen trees on Trail to the Summit and Paradise Highway.  Thanks go to our great volunteers.  Kolapore Trail Guide
